So I’m standing here at my C.O.W. (computer on wheels) in the operating room and thinking about how crazy this current global health emergency we are going through is. What’s even more crazy is that we, the entire world, are going through this together right now. Every single one of us. I feel very fortunate in some aspects that I don’t have kids right now and am not having to deal with them out of school for an undetermined amount of time. But I obviously have many many friends that do and my hat is off to all of you right now. This is a fucking difficult situation we are going through.
I personally never thought I’d see anything like this in my lifetime. Actually, I just never really thought about it. I don’t know anybody who does, yet here we are. Experiencing, surviving (some of us), and enduring…..oh and buying up all of the toilet paper. WTF is up with that!?!?!?!
Many of you know that I’m a nurse and therefore not exempt from showing up to work, just like every other healthcare worker in the world who is not under mandatory quarantine. The hospital system where we are is definitely ramping up and all elective surgeries have been cancelled until further notice. That being said, we are being told that we are in the red with supplies, and once we are in the black we cannot take any more patients.
Over the weekend some people even broke into a locked storage room somewhere in the hospital and stole 1000 N95 masks, over 1000 gowns we use as PPE, and over 100 pairs of scrubs. So…I’m happy to see that in this particular situation people are still in it for themselves.
Hint hint….an N95 only works if it’s properly fitted to your face, and even then it only works for 72 hours. Good one, dipshits.
I had higher hopes for this post when I started it…hahaha…and now I’m just rambling.
Let’s try to remember that “I” am not the only one going through this situation and that it’s extremely selfish to hoard so nobody else has supplies.
This is a great time to spend time with the family….that you live with….and also a great time to do some internal reflection when you can turn off the damn news.
When this passes, and it will, what new normal are you hoping for?
Keep getting sunshine, keep exercising and keep your spirits up! I don’t say stay hopeful, or keep the hope, or anything related to hope because to me that is living in the future. We need to live today and take care of ourselves and our families.
