Working Wednesday

“Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I’d like to see you in better living conditions.”

– Hafiz

Some dear friends gifted us with Oprah Winfrey’s book “The Wisdom of Sundays” and I recently added this to my morning routine.  I’ll tell you what…I am SO glad I did.  That Hafiz gem above came from a short reading about a conversation between Oprah and Jack Kornfield.

This book has already brought some insight and awakening into my world, allowing me to love all things better.  Even including this document review/coding project I am STILL working on.  Alas, the Working Wednesdays title!  These last few weeks seem to have been all work and not much play, which also explains my lack of writing here.  Don’t fret though, I was able to get some fun times thrown in there!!

Anyhow…moving on to the real reason I wanted to write today…

What is it that is holding you back?

I know my fears have long held a grip on me!  And when hubby and I decided to embark on this travel nursing adventure, my fears began to surface.  Big time!

How will I handle being financially dependent on someone else?

Something I’ve feared for a long time based on my witness to the failing of my parents marriage and the financial disaster my mom was left in following their divorce.  I’ve since secretly told myself that I will ALWAYS be financially independent, and now here I was, considering leaving my secure pay from a career I fully enjoy.

What if I blow through my savings?

Well, I did, and honestly it hasn’t been nearly as scary as I thought it would be.  Yes, there have been days where I stressed about finances, however, I quickly reminded myself that I’d much prefer to be rich in experiences than my bank account, so stop worrying and start living.  Who wants to live to work anyway?!? Not me!!  I wanna work to live, and I had to see this opportunity through my veil of fear!

Who will I turn to when I need encouragement to proceed?

Not only was I considering venturing away from my tribe in San Diego, this adventure would also take me away from the very network I’d worked so hard to create in my professional world in San Diego.  When I needed a smile, a word of encouragement or a few glasses of wine, where would I turn?  Don’t get me wrong, my hubby provides all sorts of encouragement, and I am beyond grateful for him in that regard.  However, as a woman, sometimes I just need another woman to bounce thoughts, emotions, worry, etc. off of.  Then I saw some light, DUH KELLI…your network and tribe will be there supporting and encouraging you no matter where physically you are.  Yes, it’s a bit more effort and coordination for scheduling, but I’ll tell you what, I’ve had some AMAZING experiences with both my tribe and network via video/conference calls.  There is just something special about seeing and hearing each other.  Do you agree?  Wanna schedule at happy hour call with me soon?!

What if I fail ?

Oh man, the WHAT IF game!  I like to call that the devils workings as well.  DO NOT DOUBT YOURSELF.  I am a firm believer in positive thinking and positive energy resulting in dreams coming true.  I’ve recently started to see that I actually have many fears wrapped around the failure thing.  Way more than I can even get into here, but I know I’ll be touching on most, if not all, of my fears at some point on this blog.  So, I’ll focus on this fear of failure as it applies to my professional endeavors.  In this area, I’ve turned to mentors to help me gain and feel the confidence I need in my field. It’s amazing what you learn about yourself, what others think of you and your reputation when you ask for help.  Are you allowing yourself to show up and be seen? Be authentic, own your story and embrace vulnerability.  Let go of my fears of failure!

Brené Brown

Interesting blog post. Some tips i would like to bring about is that computer memory is required to be purchased if your computer cannot cope with everything you do along with it. One can set up two good old ram boards having 1GB each, as an example, but not one of 1GB and one with 2GB. One should always check the manufacturer’s documentation for one’s PC to make sure what type of ram is essential.
